What's next? Hef drops the bunny? Then the pipe? Quits wearing PJs? I suppose it had to come as he is mostly a caricature of himself these days.
What you ask caused this reaction? No more naked ladies in Playboy as of this coming March. Next thing you know someone will post pictures of Billy the Kid playing croquet.
I mean . . . IS NOTHING SACRED? Sorry I yelled.

Playboy without a center fold. Is nothing sacred? I guess we'll see how true it really is when all those guys used to say "I buy it for the articles". Sure you do! Seems time might have caught up with Hef.

In the "postmortem" era (which we've already been into for a while now) his daughter who runs the company plans to turn the mansion into a family tourist attraction. Even a bed & breakfast has been mentioned. This is all probably an effort to clean up the image and make things appear more wholesome. She sees $$$.

Come on, the Bunnies in PB weren't even as risque as the Victoria Secret's catalog. It was bound to come to this. If someone wasn't buying it for the articles, then seeing a woman in real life shorts would have been an overload for them. Seriously, women's clothing shows way more than their ankles now a days. If you want much better pictures, use Google. It had gotten to where people just left the magazine out for people to see that they had it, all unashamed and stuff. It wasn't even sock drawer worthy.
Their quality writing, however, was top notch. It is still worth it for the men's articles alone, IMO.

You do know that calling this the Postmodern era is accepting that we have gone back to classical ways of thinking? right? I'm not sure people know what that means, with the way they use it. Honestly, I wouldn't call this Postmodern, personally. I think of it more as the Blind Progressivist era.

Regardless of the reason for the decision, I see the company tanking regardless. I mean who subscribes to paper magazines anymore? You can get it online! I also think that when the magazine was started, people were willing to pay money for it. Now we are all jaded and it's just a pop culture icon that has faded into distant memory.

By postmortem I meant post Hef since that is what preparations are being made for. Sorry to offend sensibilities but as is being pointed out here again & again, drastic changes have to be made if the company is to survive in today's market. What better time to attempt to make those changes?

Sorry to offend sensibilities

I have seen another forum member use that phrase, but he had no idea what it meant, so I was just asking to make sure.

I, by no means, would get offended by someone using a word wrong, ha ha!! I love it. Use words however you want. I think I'll postmodern a bowl of postmodern in my postmodern while thumbing through my newest edition of postmodern. Ha ha!! :puffy:

Surprising that print magazines have survived this long with the ready availability of online videos to either better graphic quality or explicitly rendered images (depending on your objective). Plus you don't have to hide the thick magazine under the mattress.

That PC culture really is getting to me.
This has nothing to do with being politically correct, it's all about numbers. If people can google porn and instantly get millions of adult videos in seconds on their smartphone then what need is there for a print magazine of merely naked women? Playboy is trying to transition the magazine in an attempt to keep themselves alive.
I swear, it amazes me how often people throw around the words politically correct without knowing what they actually mean.

By sensibilities I meant referring to Hef's death prematurely. Some people might find that insensitive. I didn't use the word "postmodern".

Mark my words, They are going to be more family oriented and feminist backed after Hef is gone. Only a radical change will keep that company going. What is more empowering to a feminist group than to take over a traditionally Mens magazine that was known more for its nudity than articles? Nothing. I can care less, just saying it will go a completely different direction because of the change in the times.
Just wait a while and if I'm wrong, then I'm wrong. But if I'm right, then I was right.

Cosmic, I'm not sure how old you are but some of us remember when there was no Victoria Secret and Playboy was as risqué as it got. True enough, times have changed but we still morn the apparent death of what once was the icon. In the sixties every red blooded American boy had a copy of Playboy hidden somewhere his Mother couldn't find. We're just sorry to see that bit of history pass into oblivion.

As its a men's magazine I'd venture to say they'll probably go more in the direction of GQ or Maxim.
I highly doubt some crazy anti-male feminists are plotting to take it over.

Maxim used to be a funny, irreverent, entertaining little magazine. Now it appears to be nothing but advertisements for clothing men would never actually wear. I don't know how much of their subscription demographic they lost, but I was sure among them. As far as Hef goes, I predict that when Hef is gone, the Playboy brand will go as well.
