Just returned from a wonderful visit to Santa Fé, New Mexico. I don't own a laptop so I used the public computers to do a bit of on line perusing. When I went to Pipes Magazine I got an alert that the kiosk owner, Marriott, had asked thie ISP to block the site due to "objectionable content". Any complaints or questions could be taken up with Marriott. BTW, no other forum sites I tried were blocked, just Pipes Magazine. I'll be looking for a different place to stay on my next trip.

I'd guess that's some app the chain has applied to protect minors, since young folks jump on any screen device they see and test the limits to go anywhere. I'm sure many kids check out the porn and poker in the first forty five seconds. Remember how we were even before cyber space? The desk clerks don't want to talk to raging parents. Damned if you do, damned if you don't. As long as they provide a habitable smoking area, I'll accept that limitation.

Our public WIFI blocks Pipesandcigars and all imjur images. But pipesmagazine is ok. No kidding, I used to buy 90% of all of my tobacco from P&C, and now I cannot get to the site in any way, form, or fashion. I think that they must have put something in their website that triggers this. Maybe they use imjur, ha.

Guy's checking into a hotel. Says to the desk clerk, "I got my family with me, so I hope the porn in my room is disabled."

Clerk leans in real close and says, "No, it's just regular porn, ya sick fuck."

I'm at some point with my search engine Safari where it blocks various sites including SP and Iwan Ries, though I can still get PC, 4noggins, and others. Probably I've hit the wall on updates and have to pay up for correctives, Safari 10.8 -- so it will be a lot of conferring and fiddling, and never complete satisfaction. Young folks (and some tech minded old folks) just regard this as a wonderful puzzle, and they tinker around and get what they want anyway (and actually in a very limited way, so do I). But being a non-techy minded guy of a certain age, it's sort of humiliating and insulting rather than a nifty challenge. Without gruesome details, I will assert my introduction to computers was really awful, first at work, and later at home, including state attorney generals forcing a company to pay us (class action) back for a mega rip-off. So I had a long course of aversion therapy -- I'm lucky to be online at all. I still prefer written letters!
The reject by Safari just says it cannot make a secure connection. Even just signing on, I get that, but then Google in email, pipesmag, etc.

The restaurant company that work for also owns/operates Marriott hotels, so I typically stay there for business or personal (I'm a Platinum rewards member, or what our managers usually call "separated"....) I was in two this week already, in PA and NY. I had no issue with the room wi-fi nor in the lobby downstairs using the generic guest log-in. But, I suppose that anything is possible in these times.

It could just be the location. Isn't Santa Fé known as a den of iniquity and vice?
Oh Lord no! Not even when Jesse brings his harem. It's a pretty prissy city. Motto is "The City Different", and everyone there is extra special. Sort of a Portland East. Not that there's anything wrong with that.....

For a site to be blocked, it requires one complaint from any user on the internet, which is then looked over by someone paid minimum wage and thus on a power trip, and so most complaints are approved and sites blocked. It's a great way to trim an edge off a competitor.

Safari shouldn't be doing that. And it may be that it isn't, unless someone has jimmied your browser. That said, what stops you from installing the update? Or going through Preferences and seeing if there's anything fishy. Or testing with Chrome or Firefox to see if it's browser or something else.
Safari is doing one thing it shouldn't here: it won't show Al Jones's signature image, a tiny black pipe in a while b/g. Chrome does, though.

Tip #1: never use Apple products because the company are manipulators and their fanbase is diehard and credulous. Legitimate concerns are most commonly ignored. I say this having been an observer of the company for thirty-five years.

I've been using Apple products for over 30 years and my experience has been good to excellent. Call me a fanboi if you must, but your tip is a bust.
And of the three links posted above, only the last one makes sense.

It really depends on what you look for, what you know to look for, and what your other experiences have been.
And of the three links posted above, only the last one makes sense.
You missed how the first link addresses the issue described there, without solution, in typical Apple fashion.

The first link "addresses" lots of things esp. selling software. That there is 'no solution' is the author's take. No surprise; the solution is to buy their software.
