New member and a fairly new pipe smoker here
My dad was a pipe smoker when I was growing up until I was in my early 20s, I know he had two Vikings but I don't really know what else he had in his rotation. Last year was the tenth anniversary of his passing away. For some reason at that time I got interested in refinishing estate pipes, and I a couple months ago ended up switching from my Sunday afternoon cigar to a pipe.
I have been restoring/refinishing furniture, rifle and shotgun stocks as well as clock cases for decades (mainly as a stay-busy hobby, though I do sometimes make a decent profit) but I definitely consider myself a novice when it comes to tobaccos and pipe collecting.
I currently have twelve briars of various brands, and for the moment I’ve been sticking to store-bought tobacco brands until I get some more knowledge of what I want to try.

Welcome, Don.

You are sure to find a good group of people on this site.

Part of the fun with pipe smoking is the ability to sample different blends to see what you like. Enjoy the journey!

Looking forward to the input! It ‘s unfortunate that interest in pipe smoking seems to be slowly fading; pipe smokers have become fewer and farther between around my area and the nearest “tobacco store” is 20 miles away - and doesn't really specialize in tobacco! :) . Once upon a time in our town, pipe tobacco was sold in every grocery store, convenience store and bar; right after the Gulf War there were still at least a dozen of the older veterans lighting up in the local VFW - our post used to sell some Dr. Grabows until around 2004-05.

Welcome aboard from central N.C. Fortunately, there are a number of tobacco retailers online with good inventories of well crafted blends, and of course you can mix your own, and some members grown their own. There's a great Nebraska poet of the late 19th and early 20th Century that both my wife and I got to meet at University of Missouri at Columbia, John Neihardt; my wife took a class with him. He was the poet laureate of Nebraska. He was close to the Oglala Sioux and a confident of Black Elk, the medicine man and sage.
