Well tonight I had to save a bowl of Mac baren vanilla flake. So I gave it the flake and a half fold method and off to the races I went. When I got a little ambitious with the tamper about half way through the bowl compacting the tobacco to tight. So first I try relighting impossible as now it's like sucking a golf ball through a garden hose. So I thought how can I save this?

I look around my some what cluttered smoking outpost to find, my pipe tool,a lighter,a pipe cleaner, a set of drill bits, and a blunted screw. Hmmmmm

I make a plan I take the blunted screw thread it into my compacted tobacco to the bottom of the bowl with the suitable bit and pull it upward and out. Retamp and light up again
The outcome..... Well seems like I saved the bowl back to a easy draw and smoking better than initally.
Lesson learned when givin a tamper use it to tamp not press.

It's sort of like a torque wrench. You want a good solid pack, but you don't want to apply all your strength to it. Pressure is good to a point, and then not.
