It's no secret I have a penchant for Italian pipes.

While browsing an Italian pipe retailer I discovered a young, fairly new carver named Giacomo Penzo. I was immediately drawn to his designs and flair. The pipe I liked the most had already sold unfortunately... so that means it's commission time!

I contacted Giacomo via Facebook and he replied shortly thereafter. We traded some pics of pipes and discussed details. Soon we had a shared vision. Work on this pipe has begun, and he has been kind enough to send WIP pictures because I love to see the process (don't we all!).
It will be a saddle bit stemmed pencil shank billiard (no surprise there), finished in a medium brown sandblast. I requested he put a slight forward cant on the bowl (about half the cant of a cutty) to give it some unique character.

More to come as I receive them...

Really nice briar, and I commend the long shank. I think the cant will add a lot of character. I'll look forward to future photos.

I followed Penzo's work and my opinion is that he is a very serious, knowledgeable and enthusiast guy.

his pipes have nice design and are perfectly manufactured.

I am sure you'll be satisfied of your commission.

That's a nice piece of briar. One of you here pointed out his work to me less than a year ago. I follow his releases on Lepipe.it - does he sell his pipes anywhere else? I've noticed his prices rising on Lepipe.it...

For just a hair over $200 I think it's a terrific value.
Wouldn't mind hearing an interview with him on the radio show.

From talking to him, his English appears to be decent.

My first reaction was, "Noooooooo! Think of the plateaux!!!!"
But, that is one seriously gorgeous pipe - absolutely beautiful. So elegant - the whole thing 'works.'
Congratulations!
