exactly what I meant but probably wasn't very clear.
At some point they just started using "Speciale" as the French standard line.. probably so you could tell from the model name it was a French Made pipe.

I did find and example of the Speciale Standard in a 1969 GBD Oppenheimer catalog.
It says see French shape chart on Page 86. But my scanned copy ends on Page 84....
