GBD (?) Bulldog Restoration

I posted some images of this one a while back, and all signs point to it being a GBD despite no markings on either the stem or stummel as such. I guess it's a second, even though there is no second brand name on there either.

I got it as I like the shape, plus I've never cleaned up a stem like this before.

Any idea on dating would be helpful to.

Great looking classic Bulldog shape, congrats, as for the stem, I presume its a lucite one, and to me, it looks to be in great condition,You don't have to do anything if you don't want to, perhaps applying some plastic polish would be enough,,

Thanks Paul, the stem is in great condition, save some chatter at the end. It does need to be cleaned, as there is a thick brown line running through the center of it.

I've been wanting to get a pipe with a stem like this for a while to clean up.

some poeple will say not to use alcohol in it... but I always have to clean lucite stems without issue. I also don't let the alcohol sit in there just remove the gunk.

you can sand it with 6-800 grit to remove the chatter and polish with white diamond as normal.

I would bet it's a GBD second that was meant to be sold off and stamped with a shop brand, but wasn't.

Oh now I see, some says barkeeper friend in bristled pipe cleaner would do the trick, also I'd presume a bristled cleaner dipped in 100% alcohol would do the trick tough I'd advise against using alcohol repeatedly when cleaning acrylic stems

Although the GBD shape 73 is listed as a Straight Bulldog, the font used for the 73 on your pipe makes me think...Parker.

A good clean with Murphy's and a polish is all it needs really. Everything is in great shape.

Here's an awful photo of the bowl cleaned up. Lighting does not do it justice at all, but you can see how the rim cleaned up.

Warm water, Murphy's Oil, cotton cloth, and patience.

Tried to show the thick brown line running the length of the stem. I soaked a pipe cleaner in acetone and ran it through and twisted it around. 95% of it is gone, I think it would have been more effective had I used bristle cleaners, but you use what you have.

Just a little Plast-X polish to finish the stem, and it is all done.
