Purchased an Old Meer at Auction by a small German company Franz Hiess & Söhne. I'm dating this to around 1910. I think the stem is not original. Either way, it needs replaced. It's in good shape with no chips or breaks of the pipe detail.
Looking to do a silver band (for reinforcement) + an amber replacement stem. Would love to hear from you experts who does referbs and stem making on this type of old Meer pipe?
Hope the pics work...

Thanks.
The original case and pipe are in excellent shape. The original push button lock even still works.
The stem is NOT original so I need to figure that one out.

Send it to Ric at Briarville, he's one of the best for meerschaum repair/restoration. Simon sends all of his 100 year old meers to him......... http://pipesmagazine.com/forums/topic/great-pipe-repair

OK I've heard Briarworks mentioned enough to make the call. When the stem gets re-created it will be pretty cool. I've done some research and it looks like this particular company dates back to Austria 1850's and used orange amber mostly on the sculpted meers. They did some incredible work for about 25 years.

By the way, Ben Rapaport (who I tend to trust) says that figural heads we t out-of-fashion right around the turn of the century. I'd think this one is more in the 1880-1900 range. It's really well-carved, the pre-coloring is wonderful and, yes, Briarville can help you get it banded and stemmed.

Thanks for that. It's in the mail as we speak. After doing some digging this FH & S attended the Worlds Fair in Chicago in 1894. There's a catalog that I saw on one of the pipedia pages (for some reason I cannot find again) that had the full lineup right around the turn of the century.

Thanks Jonas. The good folks at Briarville said that the stem was not in need of any banding for reinforcement. I will post some pics whenever it gets back.
