Starting to Get Obsessed
For no particular reason, I'm posting the four pipes I've commissioned over the years.

In the first picture, they're:
1) Paul Bonaquisti Ruvido in a "Canadian Prince" shape from 1998. The bowl was designed after an Ashton prince owned by a friend of mine.
2) Bill Boyle re-interpreting the same shape in 2012.
3) Bill Boyle Hungarian, made to commemorate a special occasion in 2015.
4) Mark Tinsky, made to resemble an English-made, no-name pipe I grew to like. Mark made both tapered and saddle stems, both with logos; it's a two star black and tan from 2010.

Personally, I think Bill our did himself on the Hungarian. The shank band was made of bloodwood - the hardest wood he'd ever worked he told me.

Beautiful pipes! I’m assuming the Canadian princes are slightly curved oval shanks? Never seen one but I love the idea of that!!!

Could you maybe post a couple more photos of them?

Love Tinsky’s work and he’s a great guy to work with too. This is the first I’ve seen of the other carver but it’s very nice work!

Thanks for posting!

Thank you... The Canadians are straight shanked. I experimented with curves during the design phase but didn't like the way they looked. Also, the Ashton they were modeled after was a straight shank. Some additional photos, including one of the Tinsky commission along with the original pipe that inspired the shape.

That's some high-church rustication, and used in combination with smooth finishes. I love the rough textures, which don't always work and require artistry. That Hungarian is subtle, truly fine.
