I'm far from an expert on Blatter pipes. Everything I know I learned from the aforementioned pipedia entries, and a few emails bank and forth with Robert.
As I understand it, there is some debate as to whether the second dot was intended to denote a higher quality tier, or whether it was simply another approach to maker's marks. All the Select pipes I've seen bear the signature of the carver on the shank (Robert Blatter in my case), with the word 'Select', and then a numeric code which identifies the year and the pipe (ie. 01-68 would be the first pipe made in 1968).
The train is wonderful on your pipe, Shikano, and it has the thick walls I've come to expect from B&B pipes. May it smoke well for you for a very long time.
