I have discovered that I have an allergy or sensitivity to the varnished or sandblasted coating on the stems of my McQueen Churchwardens, and they have been the source of especially sore lips and tongue bite. It may be the same for you. It has made a real difference for me

The solution may be this all-purpose, flexible 3D "mouthpiece" a friend of mine made for me on his 3D printer. It has worked, for me at least and because of its flexible composition and conical design, fits all wooden stems of any size that I possess, miniature or large.

I don't know if this nifty device, which also allows a consistent draw on all of my pipes, was made from his measurements or from a stock design on Thingyverse or other site like that. I'll post a link or dimensions for you in this thread as soon as when I get the info.

I now use this mouthpiece for all my wooden stem pipes as a matter of course. Thanks for looking in.

Interesting! I knew growing up that polyester clothes made me itchy.

A year ago or so, I had a meerschaum pipe made that had a yellow polyester stem. Apparently they are the same polyester material. The stem made my tongue and lips itchy.

So I see the issue and the want for a fix!

A softy bit might also help. I thought you had inverted one in the picture when I first looked.
