Enjoying some Luxury Navy Flake in the Kai Nielson so called Bulldog with diamond shank and horn stem, I call it the Bullcap Dublin.

Any issues with rim char? I wish I could fill my bowl that full but I burn the hell out of my rims if I do. Great looking pipe banjo.

It's a good looking pipe. As far as rim char goes, I don't think you can avoid a little of it. I wipe some spit in before I smoke and then again after. It seems to minimize it
But pipes are for smoking.

With pipes that have an inside bevel atop the bowl I can use any of my non pipe butane lighters w/o issue, for flat top pipes I tend to use either my Dunhill Rollagas with pipe flame or my Caran d'Ache with pipe flame, with corn cobs I go with my Zippo with the pipe lighter butane insert and for any metal capped pipes I grab my St. Dupont.
I find getting the pipe lit w/o interference from the wind prevents most char on pipe rims, I don't mind it on my cobs as it looks fumed and kind of like it belongs there, as long as it's not burned. If I have to wait and light the tobacco on a different side then tamp I do, the photo you see was taken after the tobacco expands from initial lighting it is then tamped Dow and relit if needed.

I always use a rough rag soaked in strong black coffee and it cleans up rim char quickly, regards.

Beautiful pipe! I've had my eye on one or two of his pipes recently but have yet to jump. How does it smoke?

bigpond,

It was smaller than what I expected which made me very happy and the first smoke was exceptional w/o any gurgle and one run of a pipe cleaner during the smoke, very pleased to say the least. The horn stem is a good fit for me also, cheers.
