No word back from embers yet on the progress...his pace must be like mine when doing tedious work:)
Waiting on the mail for brass ferrules. I can usually get a restoration done in an hour with everything on hand. The stem was reshaped in about thirty minutes using 80 grit sandpaper.

If work isn't tedious, I wouldn't enjoy it.?

This is the very embodiment of the Japanese notion of wabi sabi where something old is repaired with patience and care to become useful again. Rather than throwing it away or trying to make it perfect the flaws are incorporated into the new life of the item and it becomes more treasured for the process and for not being brand new or perfect.
