I have wanted to add a pipe by Brad Pohlmann to my collection and took advantage of smokingpipes' 15%-off estate pipes sale to buy one I had my eye on. It was an unsmoked copy of the 2010 Pipes and Tobaccos Magazine POTY. I can't say enough about the quality and precision of the construction and it pays off in the smoke. It's a dream to smoke. I'd say it's pretty much on par with my Jess Chonowitsch billiard, which means essentially perfect.
The second pipe is from a young Chinese carver. The brand is Zhiputang and there are two carvers - Yang and Li. Li is apparently learning from Yang and has about four years of experience now. He is the one who made my pipe. It should be here in a week or so. Can't wait to see it in person, because the photos are gorgeous.

Thanks everyone. I no almost nothing about Zhiputang pipes, so it’s a bit of a gamble on my part, but if that pipe had been made by someone we’ve heard of from Northern Europe, it would’ve cost 4 to 10 times what I paid. I corresponded with Li via Instagram last night. His English seems quite good. He sent me the shipping info during our conversation. I can’t wait for it to arrive.
The Brad Pohlmann reminds my a great deal of my beloved Peter Heeschen brandy in its draw, superb stemwork, attention to detail, and that rich feeling if innate quality in hand. My hat’s off to you, Brad!

Anything that makes Neal peep in his pants is too much for me, but congratulations!
And, if peeping makes you faint, it may be time for new undergarments... 8O

Are the works by Zhiputang available only through IG? I'm not a member.

IG? InstaGram? No, if you google Zhiputang, there are other outlets. That said, many carvers are increasingly moving their sales to Instagram and Facebook. I've seen several instances where photos of unfinished pipes resulted in sales, even before the pipe was complete. Plus, no middleman.

Both of those pipes are gorgeous. The second pipe looks like it could have been carved by Peter Matzhold. Totally a Scandinavian look to it. Congrats.
