If i buy a pipe that's filtered and take out the filter, will that ruin the integrity of the pipe, flavor?
Also, will there be a difference in the way it smokes compared to a pipe that -- to begin with -- comes with no filter?

I own a couple pips that are supposed to use filters. I have never ever put a filter in any of them and they smoke great. They are just like any other pipe, they just come with the option of using the filter. The fitler is just to help with the nicotine and tar and what not. If you are worried about that stuff then I say use your filters. But, your pipes will smoke just fine without them.

You can totally smoke it without a filter. Some pipes come with adapters that you can use instead of using a filter. U.S. pipe smokers tend to like pipes without filters and European pipe smokers tend to smoke with a filter. It is really a personal choice. I have never used a filter so I can't comment on how good they work though.

For me, it depends on the pipe. Some filter pipes will be terrible without while others are fine. You might try it both ways a few times to see for yourself.

I just picked up a new MM Legend last week and smoked the first bowl with the filter. About halfway through I removed it and it smoked better right away. To me it made it draw terribly. I don't use the ones with my Savinelli either

I like my cobs to be non filtered. It is what I look for when I buy one. The 2 cobs that I have that accept filters, I always use a filter in them. Just can't stand the little pieces of baccy that make their way trough with the extra wide open draw. If I am out of filters, I use a 1.5 inch piece of pipe cleaner, gently folded over, in place of one

I don't like that either. But I hate the embers much worse than the baccy particles!

Yea the cobs that I have use the filters, and when I take them out I get nothing but particles coming through. So I leave the filter in them. But I really only use the cobs for cheaper smokes anyway, so I don't really feel like I'm losing out on anything.

i enjoy cobs myself, i have smoked both ways. as long as the draw is ok i will use a filter. i tend to inhale my smoke. i agree, try it both ways, you my prefer one way over the other.
