Welcome from a fellow Canadian! Don't get discouraged if you have to relight your pipe often! Better to quickly hit it with a relight (no need to let the flame linger in the bowl, just a quick lick should do) from time to time than to scald your tongue trying to get a blazing ember like you see in the cartoons! Better off smoking tobacco that is too dry too slowly than scalding yourself from hot and wet tobacco. It won't fall in to place right away, but you've got the rest of your life to refine your methods.
