I know he’s not a snob he smoke often d&r blends and Sutliff edgeworth i was making a joke why so serious ?
You name is Winterreise. Are you not somber and depressed, just like the Schubert? How can I joke? ?
JimInks is a beloved and treasured member of our community. Not sending his one IS the way to show him our gratitude.
I hear what he really likes is Holly's Non Plus Ultra. ?
I recently purchased a pipe rack with a tobacco jar on Ebay. The jar is not sealed, but has a lid that rests on top. My thought was rack some pipes and put a daily/regular blend in the jar for easy access.

To my surprise, the jar came full of tobacco. I can't place the smell, but it's probably a light aromatic. The tobacco is bone dry ribbon that is dark brown.

Should I ask the seller about the tobacco? Should I pitch it? Should I ask the seller anything else?

My gut reaction is to pitch the tobacco and let things be. Any thoughts would be appreciated in this semi-awkward situation.
I'd try a bowl or maybe half.

If you try it and and it falls somewhere between palatable and amazing then you can crow about it in the forum!

If you try it but it leaves you queasy or unsettled then simply don't tell us. We'll never know about it but your curiosity will be satisfied...

I'd try it in a heartbeat, but that just confirms more than half a century of questionable decisions I've made.

Two things I'd like to chime in on....
1st.... I bought a Pipe Rack with a 'Baccy jar at the thrift store and brought it home years ago. It didn't seal ether and let my 'Baccy dry out so I went up to my local Home Improvement store and took the top of the jar with me. I went to the "o" ring department (In Plumbing) and found a silicone "o"ring to fit the lid. That has been working great for years.
2ed....My curiosity would get the best of me....Try the 'Baccy and let us know....LOL

@The Amish Tyrant did you ever try the tobacco or just get rid of it?
Thank you all for the input. The responses were diverse and appreciated.

After weighing the pros and cons, the cons considerably outweighed the pros.

I cooked for a living half my life. The kitchen is full of deviants that normally can't function in a 9 to 5 world and get paid to play with knives and fire. As Anthony Bourdain said, cooks are modern day pirates.

As a result, I have issues with potential contamination. Also, there is no buyer's regret in that it was virtually a gift that wasn't bargained for in the transaction.

You can't miss what you never had, so the tobacco got pitched. It is a fun story though and another member had a similar post recently in which I shared my experience.

Can't blame you for being cautious. I owned and operated a food truck for years and can relate to the issues you mentioned. "Cooks are modern day pirates". Love that. LOL

For those curious, here is a photo of the rack and jar. I haven't filled it with my daily blend yet since the Michigan cold has hindered my ability to enjoy a pipe outside.

The jar lid has a nominal rim that might not even fit the smallest rubber band width. If they make an o-ring that size, I'd pick one up in an attempt to create a seal. Think the width of the white of a well kept fingernail.

I appreciate the suggestion and all the comments here.
