Wow, one of the nicer blasts I have seen on an OA. I have one in the same shape but a Sea Rock and it is one of my best smokers.

That's great to know peck... I've never spent so much on a pipe, especially an ebay auction pipe so I'm hoping it smokes as great as it looks. Based on my recent research...Google search hehehe...they are supposed to be hand made, of a higher quality of briar based on the KK and should smoke great.
It has shipped...yipeeeeee...hopefully will have it Christmas eve at the latest...if not, sigh, I can wait, oh sure, a few more days...

In the blasts or rusticated sea rocks the KK just refers to the size - from K through KKKK and then onto G, GG
So that should be around a group 4 - perfect for flakes.
in Castello smooths the K, KK etc, designation refers to grain quality.

Ebay can be really fast, I got a package before in under 7 days from Yugoslavia to Canada, but you'll probably have to wait a bit longer due to the Christmas season and the crazy amount of packages right now.

peck you are correct, I misread...

From Pipes.org

OLD ANTIQUARI [Sandblasted Light tan to medium rust colored

brown]: Only 10% of the total Castello pipe production is produced

in the sandblasted Old Antiquari series. These can be either

crosscut or straight grained pieces and are typically shallow to

medium in sandblasting depth. These have, as a rule, been stained

a medium brown or medium rust color although starting in the

spring of 1987 we have started to see more and more arrive in a

light colored tan or almost natural color and in 1989 we carried a

few black sandblasted Old Antiquari pipes.
As with the carved Sea Rock models, the Old Antiquari pipes are

graded by size and marked by the number of K's. The higher the

number of K's the higher the price and larger the piece including

the G & GG size stamps. Old Antiquari pipes will include a shape

number along with the K or G size grade.

I was enviously watching that one as it hit all of my bells & whistles:
Tapered Stem - Bulldog

Antiquiara finish
Best of all is the KK size. 2K pipes are very rare and for me, the perfect size (like Peck said, a Group 4ish pipe). Castello seems to make only 4K or G,GG size pipes any more. My radar goes UP with I see a 2k.
I didn't need another pipe, so I was only watching. Enjoy that tapered stem dog!
