I still have some of this mixture jarred from before they switched to Peterson, It's made in the same plant as Escudo. I really can't tell much difference, Both great smokes,

Escudo is less refined. Little harsher, little stronger, and not as smooth. At least that's how it was for me. But I did notice some people swearing they are same.
I find Escudo to be among the finest tobaccos in the world. There's a reason why everybody compares whatever Va/Per there smoking to it.
I think the Dunhill/Peterson version is a bit better, being sweeter, richer, and perhaps a little stronger. That said, I like them both. Visually, they look identical to me.
Escudo was a preferred tobacco of fish'n'banjo, the late great Forums member whose motto was "keeping it smokey." I sent him my tin of Escudo unopened in thanks for a Meerschaum pipe he sent, but I still have a tin of the Dunhill Navy Rolls I'm looking forward to popping. It has some years on it, so should be pretty good.
I prefer DLNR over Escudo. The difference is that Dunhill/Peterson has some prune juice in the casing. The Virginia’s might be slightly different but not far off. I agree with what pantsboots said about DLNR being sweeter and richer.
DLNR is for those who will pay more for the fiction of palpable difference. And because it costs more, the

Smoke them side by side. They're not the same blend.
I can’t claim to be the most experienced smoker or to have a sophisticated palate but I tasted a difference between Escudo and DLNR. DLNR to me had a sweeter Virginia blend with a mellow sweet perique where Escudo had a Va blend that was grassy and sweet with a spicy perique.
I think the original version is what people are referring to when making that comparison. Jesse @sablebrush52 can elaborate.
That's pretty close to my experience. I'll add that NR is earthier and less grassy than Escudo. Escudo has more citrus than dark fruit, which is the reverse of NR. The toppings are not quite the same either. I know some years back, somebody did some sort of chemical analysis of them, and concluded both were the same. They are not the same blends, and I've smoked a lot of both the past twenty-some years (over 200 tins of NR, and about 100-110 tins of Escudo). The differences were a bit more obvious when Murray's made NR, and A.C. Peterson made Escudo.
I made a point of steering clear of this thread, given how I feel about the current version. Why rain on anyone's parade (unless they ask for it)?
Have never smoked Escudo, but DLNRs opened the tobacco world for me being the first non-Nightcap good pipe tobacco I smoked. Incidentally I opened a 2 year tin last night as sort of a celebration for a happy occasion. It is delicious, even more so now that I have a good 60 more blends under my belt.
DLNR has been the deepest of my cellaring for years (all are Dunhill, have not needed to try the Peterson due to large stocks of the original). Early on I compared it several times to Escudo and DLNR was the best for me.
Some info I found. Cigar Standard seems to have some Original Dunhill Deluxe Navy Rolls in stock. I placed an order with them on Tuesday (did't get any DLNR). It came out of L.A. and I received it yesterday.

I like DNR, but I honestly think I like Elizabethan Match a little better as a blend with a similar flavor profile. It is a great blend though.
Finding I am getting the best flavour out of DLNRs by letting them dry for 15-20 mins and then folding and stuffing.
Who put the "L" in DNR? And why?
I guess technically it is De Luxe Navy Rolls, not Deluxe Navy Rolls, but I say DNR, too.
