Would anyone agree that this stamping might reflect a year of manufacturer of 1924.
The pipe doesn't seem to have any year stamp after ENGLAND or the patent number, but it has a stamping of 312/24.

Im guessing it’s a 1940. The most valuable detail will be whether or not it says “DUNHILL’S SHELL,” or “DUNHILL SHELL,” lacking the possessive S. Can you tell, or is it faded?

Too faded. I know the war-years pipes often were not date stamped, but is there a certain reason you would date it to 1940 as opposed to a more broad guess like 1940-1945?
I appreciate the help.
