I picked up this Dunhill estate pipe at a local auction house today and spent an hour giving it a good clean and polish. It seems in excellent condition and I could spend a lot more time on it but wonder if it is just fine as it is......it's easy to go to far....any views? (some before and after pics below) It is marked with an A and an 0, if any dunhill experts has any ideas as to age, or even value I'd be grateful, hopefully I didn't pay too much but in any case I am rather chuffed with it! and off now to give its first bowl in new hands.....A5B7DEF3-49C4-493C-805C-C43E9C3653D1.jpeg

Very nice little prince/dog. The nomenclature isn't what I've grown to think is normal and the shank has what looks like sanding or even file marks on it. It looks real enough to be an older Dunhill, and if you got it for under a $100, you probably made a good investment. Looks like it has been a well loved smoker. Good deal!
Where is this 'auction house'?

In Cheshire in the Uk - I had a close look at the file marks but it is only from where I applied the polish a little thick

Definitely real and original.

-- The letter A is the finish (Bruyere)

-- The letter O is the shape "number" (most Dunhills are digits, some are letters)

-- The numeral 1 means the innertube size (the silver thing that was frequently exchanged for a fresh one as a cleaning method)

Someone will be along shortly to date it :)

Nice pipe but don't be bashful, what did you pay for this fine Dunhill?
I paid £80 or $92US, there were two other bidders after it too so got pushed up quite a bit more than I was hoping, but having looked at ebay prices in advance I thought this would be its ballpark so wasn't surprised.....the auctioneer was though, obviously not a pipe smoker himself 🤠

Not being a fan of factory made pipes myself, you gotva great deal on that. Too many charge over inflated prices on them even when they don't have a remarkable grain or blast. Keep your eyes on ebay though. Deals are fairly common.

I was one of the other bidders (from online)! Glad it went to someone who will enjoy it. I could just about make out the patent number from the photos, but not the exact age. Nice pipe, I love the shape!

That's a bargain for a Dunhill in good shape and it's a Bulldog to boot.

Ah, I thought someone else had spotted it, I think sometimes dealers get the best lots from there but they like six at a time rather than a quality single item that will take time to sell on.....sorry to have beaten you, but I am glad too, its a great little smoker!
