Moved to Pipe Repair. Please make new Introduction telling us something about what you smoke, in what, etc.

I recently purchased Dreki Rosewood Calabash pipe with a ceramic/porcelain bowl. The chamber in the bowl is small and the weight of the bowl makes the pipe heavy to the point you have to hold it in your hand to smoke it. Who can I get to carve a briar bowl to fit the Rosewood calabash? I live-in Denver, CO

Technically your pipe is only shaped like a true Calabash pipe made from a light weight gourd. Almost all pipes of this type require a hand hold due to being top heavy. The ceramic bowl is a looser when compared to the usual meerschaum bowl insert. Your idea of a custom briar insert my help you to get a decent smoke and salvage this poor quality pipe. Made in China? Welcome to learning land.

Rosewood is not among the preferred pipe woods and a ceramic bowl will not give a satisfactory smoke. You’ll be better off buying a proper calabash if it’s a calabash you’re set on. There is a wealth of info on pipes of every kind on this forum. Research before you buy.

Actually made in Israel. It is a great looking piece but as you say is really heavy. I succumbed to advertising!

Porcelain IS a heavy material.
It totally negates the use of lightweight gourd In calabash construction.

You can get replacement meerschaum bowls from retailers of meerschaum pipes.
Sending them the dimensions of your pipe is the best way forward.

Mimmo Provenzano makes calabashes out of different materials for bowls and chamber parts, if you’re interested in looking at “hybrid” calabashes.

Getting a custom-made bowl will NOT be a cheap option.
I’d look at buying a proper gourd calabash.
