Moving on to my second restoration - or deep cleaning depending on how much I do. This one looks to be a little more challenging. Any advice is welcomed.

Agreed.

That stem doesn't look too bad, just the usual treatment in there.

I think i mentioned this in your other thread, but I would fill the bowl with cotton balls, and the shank with a some cotton as well and give the outside a nice clean with Murphy's oil and warm water.

My first clean up was a Dr. Grabow as well.

Thanks for the advice. Are you saying cotton balls instead of salt for a bath or when cleaning with Murphy’s?

Well I know it’s not perfect but it’s better and I learned a lot. I’ll come back to it when I lean more. I notice the little filler spots now that I didn’t see before. ☹️
  • Alcohol takes some dye off briar
  • Spit and a rag does work well
  • The stem was not vulcanite and the light method does not work on plastic or acrylic or whatever this stem is
  • I don’t think pipe cleaners ever come out clean164371643816439164401644116442
