I’ve been using my Peterson Natural Silver Mounted Army 15 (above - she’s so pretty I couldn’t resist ?) solely for straight Va’s since I got it. Haven’t entirely broken the pipe in yet as I don’t often smoke straight Va’s. Having said that, it still always smokes hot and wet. Mainly smoke Astley’s No. 44 and Erinmore in it.

Today I decided to try some Stokkebye Luxury Navy in it. It smoked fantastically well - one relight and never got hot or gurgled.

So, does perique typically help tame some otherwise hot Virginia tobaccos? If not perique, then I suppose it could be attributed to different varietals of Virginia, perhaps. I know it’s not because my smoking technique suddenly became that much better...

I’m always pretty anal about drying my tobaccos before smoking... the plot thickens. It’s raining like crazy down here in Georgia, too. Definitely not a low humidity smoking night at my house ?‍♂️

Nice pipe. More likely it’s starting to break in.

Or the dryness of the tobacco, as stated above.

Great information all, much obliged. Seems this pipe smokes VaPer’s better than straight Va’s at the present moment. Been wanting to get back into VaPer’s again so it’s just as well.
