Do You Keep The Box?

I don't have an imposing collection, (nine for the moment,) so it's not too much of a problem. But yes, I have them all. And I keep my tobacco tins as well.
I never considered throwing out a box other than those thin maroonish SmokingPipes boxes. I store all of my new and restored pipes in small cardboard mailing boxes that are just big enough to also include the original pipe box (if any). Smoked pipes go in pipe racks. When I trade out a pipe in the rotation, the removed pipe gets restored and put into a mailing box, along with it's pipe box if there is one.
I sometimes buy lots of old pipe boxes, so they just get catalogued and put in a storage box, along with the ones that belong to my smoking pipes. It's no big deal.
I probably have 50 or so boxes that I bought without pipes - it's always a kick when I am able to match one up with a 'new' old pipe. I was lucky to find this 'Irish Free State' era box recently, so these two pipes now have a home:

Though I am only up to one briar at the moment, I already know the answer to this question for me.
Always keep the sock. Only keep the box if the pipe is particularly nice/special/fancy AND the box is also a quality box. It isn't about keeping value or something by having the original box (I think most buying estates or used pipes wouldn't care), but more about if I moved or something, I have a place to put the pipe to be protected. It's purely practical.
But when I say only if it's particularly special/etc, what I really mean is more, "did this pipe cost $500-1,000 or is it just $50-150?", or is it a situation with a "certificate of authenticity because it's a limited/special edition and numbered" thing.
Otherwise, a box is just clutter and I'm not a particularly sentimental kind of person.

Yeah, as a "Trying to reform" Pack Rat, I have pipe boxes floating around here and there....The question is, Will the Pipes ever go back into the sleeves into the Box?...Probably not.
