Yes. Of course you do. I certainly do and increasingly so. In my 3rd year as a pipesmoker I have noticed that I am reaching more and more for the pipes that sit well in my jaw, the clenchers, regardless of looks. More or less accidentally I once bought a Stanwell 83, a bent billiard of the Royal Guard series with a burgundy stain. I didn't like it in any way, but I needed a pipe and it was available.
It is now my favorite. It just works, everytime, all the time. I stick it in my mouth and it becomes a part of me.
Later I've had the same experience with a Savinelli 9614, a hungarian, and these two pipes have changed my mind about what to look for in a pipe. All I want now is 3-4 more 83's and 1-2 614's, and I'll puff happily ever after, enjoying the flavors while the pipe hangs unnoticed.

I can relate. Sometimes it just becomes a part of my being and I forget it is even there. I have a Jeantet that I like the looks of but it is a super light clenched. Great smoker of Virginia flakes

Either I tolerate anything or have good luck in picking out pipes, probably with help from retailers who screen their inventory well, and unquestionably from family and Forums members who have given me some jewels of pipes. My wife has given me a churchwarden and an Oom-Paul which are terrific, but which I wouldn't have bought for myself.

I concur, I have a couple of Savinellis that I smoke every day. The rest of my pipes just sit there “lookin all jealous.”

I also definitely need to pick up a few more just to give these two a rest. They are the two that I automatically go to.

I don't remember the movie, just the line from it...yeah it's gross!
I enjoy my clenchers and tend to gravitate towards them, it may be from smoking cigarettes when I was younger. Recently, I have been on vintage pot (shape) kick..which started after the Saiseni Moorgate. Just a great bowl shape and size for me. That's why I had to pick up the Comoy today, it will fit nicely in a 7 day pot(shape) rotation.

I had no interest in the full bent styles until I tried to do some walking and chores and writing with a pipe. Like you, I got a Sav 614 shape and it’s just perfect to hang and ignore, so long as one is in a spot with a bit of airflow so the smoke doesn’t get in the eyes.

This may be why I use my smaller and lighter pipes most often although they are mostly straight or quarter bent billiards. I may have to try full bent pipes. My only full bent pipe is a Peterson that just doesn't smoke all that well (anyone want to buy an old Peterson Kapruf XL 90? ;)).
I agree with caring less what they look like. A rather ugly pot shaped pipe is one of the pipes I use most often because it seems to bring out the flavours in complicated blends the best. The dogs and wild critters don't seem to mind the looks.

This post may be tangential, but yes, I literally enjoy having a tobacco pipe in my hands. This is one reason I’m delving into restoration — so I can have my hands on pipes and enjoy the texture, etc that I see with my eyes :)

I'm not much of a clench smoker, I enjoy holding my pipes more. Having ogre hands I like the feeling a big honkin' sand blast in my hand. Once I get the pipe situated in a comfortable grip and a good smoke going I'll often forget it's there. As another member stated it just becomes part of you for the duration of the bowl. Many a cold evening has been spent around a fire in this state.

Boxers, loose pants, and talcum powder will keep you from noticing it much.
Or do the opposite with boxer briefs and tight pants.

really though I find myself smoking the most comfortable pipes most the time. Anything I can’t take on the go or clench easily tends to sit.
