Bought this in December. Its my first meerschaum. The whole thing is coloring at the same speed. This is 50 bowls or so. I bought a second one and its def not doing this.

Looks like a really nice meer...I like the shape. IMP's are generally very good.
In my experience they don't normally color uniformly like that. There have been others on here who have posted such pics, but I've never had one color in quite that manner.

Is the second one straight or bent? Out of the ones I used to have, the bents colored faster and more evenly that the straights.
depemds on your opinion. If you like the way it's coloring and it smokes how you like, then yes. I know my one meer I got lucky with. Including that when I droped it on concrete the stem broke and still needs replaced and the pipe is fine. It is coloring quickly and beautifully.
Its a straight billiard but its not coloring really much at all. I have another straight showing up today.
I'm pretty sure it's the chunk of Meerschaum used. I've had nearly identical pipes color very differently. All my super lightweight pipes tend to color evenly, while the heavier pipes color at the shank more. I don't mean a thicker or thinner piece of Meer. I mean two pipes of the same dimensions weighing noticeably different.

The carvers still put a clear wax on white Meers. The wax will most often darken in the early part of the Meer's life. Unfortunately, the wax wears off over time and then you wait for the natural coloring process to take place.
Perhaps yours will be an exception. As I said, time will tell. Below is one of my Meers, it was pure white when I received it. Top photo is much younger than the one below it. The third is how it looks right now albeit a poor photo.
Such a great looking pipe. That replacement stem really transformed it in my opinion. I wish it were possible to get that sort of quality direct from the maker.
