Dedicated?

So is it really that important to dedicate certain tobaccos to certain pipes? I am trying different types right now and only have one meer, so I've been smoking different blends in the same briar pipes. I only have 8 pipes and often just feel like smoking a certain pipe and likewise get a hankering for various tobaccos, so should I dedicate and thus loose the pipe-tobacco mix and match? Does it matter? Does the smoking experience really get that much better with a dedicated pipe? Because it sure is good right now!

I've never dedicated pipes to blends... Namely because I usually smoke Latakia and Oriental blends with only the very occasional aromatic.

I have one pipe dedicated to Celtic Talisman, one pipe dedicated to Sherlock Holmes (it just tastes best in this pipe) and one dedicated to Irish Oak. Other than that it is any tobacco in any pipe.

I use one for Cherry blends but all My other pipes I smoke diff. blends in all of them and it works for Me.

I smoke mostly aros in my cob, mainly because it's my "travelling" pipe. I try new stuff out in the Meer. I'll probably get around to dedicating once I get a bigger rotation.

Ah, true, I also try new stuff in a meer first. The taste is more.. enhanced and true to the blend.

I love my meer. don't know why I waited so long to get one. I smoke it the most of all my pipes (not that many, but the meer gets the most attention).

Since I usually smoke English/Balkan blends I smoke every blend in every pipe that I have. When I do smoke an occasional aromatic, I limit the smoking of the aromatics to only two of my pipes, in which I usually smoke English/Balkan blends, since I do find that for me an aromatic lingers in the pipe.

I have few pipes for Vs, a few for English, a few for Aros, two for lakelands & one for specific English blend :P

Roughly half of my collection is reserved for blends with Latakia while the other half is not. I have two pipes for the occasional aromatic and a handful of pipes for Lakeland blends.

I'm a vague genre dedicator. If you want to experiment at home, smoke only one tobacco in a particular pipe for the entirety of a tin, and keep notes on how it smokes--I think you'll find that it develops a depth and clarity that will surprise you.

Currently since i'm new to the art of pipe smoking i can smoke a pipe upside down and get away with it.

So right now i use w/e in all my pipes, but in the future I like the idea of having at least one cob dedicated to each backy in my rotation.
From there I will most likely dedicate my other future pipes to the different categories of backy. But when trying out a new backy I think it's a no-brainer to have a clay/new cob/or a meer on hand to get the untainted taste of the backy.
I hope to get my hands on one of THESE beauties soon.

Mmm keeping a journal on the Subtleties of the tobbac sounds like a fun idea Romeowood. I think I will ty that. I will of course share my findings with the community.

I have found different pipes have their own smoking characteristics. Mainly are they loose or flake pipes? I have two or three pipes I reach for if the fold and stuff flake is what I am going to smoke. Those three pipes handle flake best and will take it right to the bottom of the bowl.
While I am usually not an aromatic person, I do have a couple pipes I use for stronger flavored aromatics (heavily case or topped) especially the sweeter tobaccos I have in my stash.
My meerschaum and cobs are good for first tries of new aromatics. Then I can decide if one of my briars will be used if the flavor might be stronger and have a chance to linger on or ghost the bowl.
Regular extra cleaning or 'de-ghosting' (I use the Everclear alcohol/salt cleaning to help neutralize flavored pipes) helps clear past tobacco tastes from the bowl.

I've never dedicated a pipe to a certain blend. Mostly I smoke aromatics though. Haven't had much English blends at all, because the one I tried gave me horrible stomach problems. So I haven't really seen a "need" to dedicate a pipe to a specific blend. Having smoked a flake, University Flake by Peterson, I can see how people say shapes like Dublin or Zulu are better for that cut of tobacco. UF does smoke best in my Aran 268 which is a Zulu shape. But I'm the kind of guy who just picks whatever tobacco and whatever pipe I feel like smoking at the current time, with my rotation in mind that is (I never smoke the same pipe back to back days).

Red Rapparee is really the only blend I'm sure that I need a dedicated pipe for. I can't pick up all its goodness if anything else has been in the bowl in front of it.
If I ever had time, I would revisit a few of the Pease blends that I have never been able to "get", using a dedicated pipe. I'm quite sure I was missing some oriental interplay on more than blend.

I never really dedicated a pipe to a blend until this last week. Haddo's in the Savinelli Oscar SINGS. It's several kinds of wonderful!
I'm also going to switch to only putting aros in the meers or the Alpha because the draw is more open. In the other pipes, they gunk up really badly and the aro is overwhelmed by ewwww and ick. In the meers and the Alpha, they smoke clean.
