Decorated Clay Pipes?

I smoked a short cheap clay pipe 50 years ago or more well worn with teeth marks and all. My middle son is in Scotland this week and sent me photoes of two clay pipe bowls with decorations on them and I wonder if they were comonly used.

You mean like embossed on them or painted?

Clay pipes with raised or embossed designs are common; blackened and colored clay pipes are less common, but available; clay pipes painted with fancy designs definitely exist, but are more of an aftermarket customization
