So, there may be some disagreement about what time period an FH stamp puts a Charatan in but reading through I found
“Pre-1955 Charatans-possibly back to the beginning-had pronounced serifs on the CP stamp and either a taper or saddle bit. Pipes made in 1955 or later had the same types of bits but without the serifs on the CP. The block letter "FH" marking, for "Free Hand," on either side of the stem was used from the 1940s or so until about 1958. The problem is that all pipes were not stamped "FH," even though all the pipes were actually hand made.”

You might want to check out this section of the forum: Ken Barnes Posts On Charatan And Upshall - https://pipesmagazine.com/forums/pages/ken-barnes-posts/

Ken Barnes worked for Charatan for some time.
Is it possible to close to the correct year of production? Here is the one I’m speaking of:View attachment 192782

Ken trained at Charatan, where his father was the general manager. He then went on to found James Upshall pipes with Barry Jones and his father. This section provides a lot of otherwise unavailable information about both brands of pipes.
Without a date stamp, or hallmark, it's difficult to lock down a pipe to a specific year. At least you know that it's a 50's era pipe, so that's something. The Lane stamp narrows that down a bit, so likely between 1955 and 1958.

Seems to be in decent shape too! It’s nice knowing it is that old, thanks.
