Do you think these little cracks and dings could be a problem? The only one that Im really concerned about is the one I zoomed into, you can see it better on the 2nd picture. Any advice is appreciated.IMG_8812.jpegIMG_8813.jpegIMG_8814.jpeg

Doesn't look that serious. I would not buy a pipe with a crack but if it's priced right, and you disclose the crack in the listing someone will buy it eventually.

I wouldn’t worry about it much.
If the seller was deceptive in listing it, that’s another issue.
If you’re okay with what you got for what you paid, I’d say clean it up and smoke it.

I have an estate Savinelli 616 that arrived with an incredible cake load that I vigorously worked on eliminating and when I was done I discovered a crack on the rim. I don't know if I caused it, but, the pipe smokes perfectly and the crack has not developed. It's a crap shoot. One pipe might continue to crack up, and the next might just perform fine.

I apologize, I was under the impression you were trying to sell this. If it's your smoker, it looks like the previous owner really liked it and it should be a good smoker. It should have many years left, as others have mentioned, it doesn't look to be that serious.

FYI. Bo Nordh (one of the most respected pipe makers prior to his death) was often seen smoking one of his own pipes that had a significant crack down one side. Cracks can make a pipe useless, but they don't always do so.

Just don’t abuse the pipe and those tiny cracks should never be a problem.

My favorite pipe has a pretty substantial (3/4 inch long) crack down low on the outside and it’s never shown any signs of growing in many years. Hard to tell how deep it extends but it’s more than cosmetic, probably a flaw in the briar.

I usually see cracks like that on pipes that get tapped out on hard surfaces. When the palm of the hand works perfectly for it. But I've seen people use concrete pillars for such things and then wonder why they're pipes break.
