Iwan Ries used to do it. I got a couple that were pretty good quality for the circumstances back in the '70s.

As I mentioned in a post to another thread, Willoughby Taylor Pipe Mixture (at the time a product of The Mail Pouch Tobacco Company of Wheeling, West Virginia) offered a coupon for The Whitehall Pipe - Regular retail price $5.00 - Yours for $3.00 and 24 Coupons.

Troost used to have coupons and you could get pipes, tobacco jar, ashtrays, beer mugs, etc. Here's a pic of the some of pipes and tobacco jar:

I collect all the Troost items... got a bunch back in the day with coupons and the rest recently on ebay.

I forgot I had this Prince Albert tin with the original sleeve of tobacco. The price tag on it is 29 cents. I'm just guessing that it's from the 60's or early 70's. With 5 sleeves/coupons and $2 you could get a new Dr Grabow pipe. You could also get a new knife. I remember all through the 60's seeing my dad's brothers with these tins of tobacco. I don't know what kind of pipes they were smoking. The sleeve has zip codes in the address so it's at least 1963.

Five wrappers and two dollars! I guess two dollars was about like ten today, or more.

I'm most familiar with the RJ Reynolds/Grabow coupon pipes. When they stopped the program it was the longest running program of that type. Besides the Grabows available they also had the Adventurer, which was Grabow made, and was available with coupons from Madiera Gold. Here's a price list from 1969.

Grabow also made some pipes for Amphora using mostly Grabow shapes but stamped with a different ( 3 digit) shape number.

Stan, I've never had a full pocket tin of PA. Do have a tin of Velvet that Dave Whitney sent me that I think is from the 60's- early 70's.
