Well @georged people in Italy probably think places like Lick Skillet Alabama, Monkeys Eyebrow Kentucky and Slickpoo Idaho are pretty strange names. 
Or Humptulips, Washington, or Wanker's Corner, Oregon.

People are always curious as to where it got it's name.
As the story goes, a guy named Moses Cushman Marsh, who was the first postmaster of Panama NY, named it after visiting the country of Panama and seeing their famous rock structures.
Panama NY is known for an attraction called......Panama Rocks Scenic Park. A few years ago some friends of ours bought the park and made some well needed repairs and updates.
It's a series of cave like structures and pathways through....um.....rocks.
