Just wanted to do a bit of a poll and get the opinion of this fine forum on what order of nicotine strength you would give to the following blends:

Five Brothers
D&R Picayune
C&D Big n' Burley
Peterson's Irish Flake
C&D Burley Flake #1
C&D Old Joe Krantz
War Horse Bar

I haven't had ALL of these but below is a reference to an excellent resource for this type of research.

#1 Picayune
#2 War horse

My thoughts below. OJK is probably my old faithful.

Five Brothers
Have a pouch but haven’t opened it yet

D&R Picayune
Haven’t tried it. Don’t have any.

C&D Big n' Burley
8/10 Nic hit. Like OJK but plainer.

Peterson's Irish Flake
6/10 Nic hit. Has a bit of flavour to it. Nice smoke.

C&D Burley Flake #1
Only tried #3, give that a 7/10.

C&D Old Joe Krantz
8/10 Nic hit

War Horse Bar
5/10 Nic hit. To much of an aro for me.

I've tried all of those except Picayune. High in nicotine, horrible on taste to me. So the nicotine didn't matter.

My thoughts exactly. On the very rare occasion when I need an electric jolt to go with my morning coffee I'll reach for OJK, but the "man, this tastes terrible" impression always comes along with the nic hit for me.

A cigarette has more nicotine than any of those. Here's where the pipe nicotine is.

Haven't tried any of them apart from Irish Flake and OJK, sold OJK to a friend for half the price of the tin after having 4-5 bowls. Burns well, that's all the good I can say about it. What nicotine? What taste is it supposed to have? I got hot air from it.

Haunted bookshop was nearly indistinguishable from OJK too, I sold it to the same friend for nearly full price of the tin as I only had a bowl of it. I got a little more taste out of it than from OJK, Perique specifically. Equally boring and tasteless.

Irish flake I've smoked, it's not bad at all, there's a topping I couldn't put my finger on though, vegetal, maybe citrus and slightly floral. Not bad but won't buy again. No big nicotine explosions either from that one.

All these are relatively strong except War Horse. I seem to ingest more nicotine when smoking tobaccos I really like and can savor. From this list, that would be Irish Flake and OJK. I don't like 5Bros straight, but I mix it into blends that need a kick in the ass all the time. Picayune is strong, but it's a once in a while smoke for me. You could try them all for about 50 bones!

C&D Burley Flake #1 - I rate this as the strongest of the list. Nice big bold flavor of earthy burley, with a hint of spice.
D&R Picayune - A close second. I think of this as VaPer on steroids.

War Horse Bar - if you've always wanted an aromatic with some strength... but strength in what? I sometimes can't tell if I have had too much nicotine or I've gotten some other chemical making me woozy.

Five Brothers - This one and...
C&D Big n' Burley - I think of as neck and neck, except 5B is a little monochromatic and bland at times for me. It is a better mixer. B&B has more interesting flavors if you like a little latakia and spice.

Peterson's Irish Flake - It's alright. It hits a few cigary-like notes for me, but it doesn't ring my bell.

C&D Old Joe Krantz - It's another high powered VaPer, but it's never come across as a contender for the most nicotine for me. I could probably smoke this all day, if I wanted. But, it's not even one of the best tasting... to me. But, it has a strong following. So, someone really likes it.

Funny, I didn't think this one was all that strong. I like to spice this one up a bit with some perique, maybe mix it with something stronger to fluff it up a bit. It has a really interesting taste, but doesn't ring my bell. It's definitely not up there with Cotton Boll Twist and it's rustica. Isn't it interesting how we are all affected differently?

Oh I know about the rustica blend. I can't wait to order some, I discovered it's existence after my last order. I do have some actual whole leaf rustica I bought from leafonly, I shred up a bit of it now and then and spice up a blend in the pipe. Very strong indeed

I know how you feel about OJK, I felt the exact same at first. However, I decided to add moisture to it since it seemed dry and the flavors really bloomed and it turned into a decently tasty blend, much better than it was before. I actually did the same with Picayune and Big n' Burley to the same great effect.

Out of the ones mentioned I have only tried Peterson Irish Flake. Years ago I used to think Irish flake was strong but now It feels like every other blend, nice flavor but medium strength The last tin of IF I smoked was from 2009 and it was very tasty and a niece after dinner smoke. I have my eyes on a 2007 tin for my next Irish Flake.

I now never look for strength, just the flavor. I have found that most blends have very similar strength

I don't think a cigarette has more nic than a strong pipe tobacco. Not even close, but admittedly I have no data I'm interested in digging up. What a cigarette has is chemical engineering. That tiny bit of tobacco can only have so much nicotine, but they've engineered them such that it breaks the blood-brain barrier and delivers it directly to the pleasure areas of your brain. I've gotten pleasant nic buzzes from most of the blends mentioned by the OP, without inhaling, but the engineering that went into cigs give them the most bang for the buck nicotine-wise, so they don't really need to have much.

I don't think I could order them completely, though I've had all but one. I can say that I more than replaced my nicotine needs when I quit cigs by smoking Five Brothers or Irish Flake, depending on the time I had.

Where do the Tabac Manil Semois fit on this hierarchy? I just opened a “loaf” of Reserve du Patron but haven’t tried it yet.

I've smoked all but two or three of those, and I can't grade them on nicotine strength. I get a buzz now and then, and usually enjoy it, but it's not why I smoke them. I love the depth of flavor of OJK, Peterson Irish Flake, Big'n'Burley, and others not on the list like Semois and Amphora Burley. It's a happy flavor to me, like a welcome home.
