I noticed something interesting today, there are some Comoy Christmas pipes on the bay ranging in date from the late 70's through the 80's.

Here is the C logo on the 1977 pipe

I think we can safely say this is the time of transition from the 3 piece C logo.

Those Christmas pipes have always been a mystery to me. Nearly all, have the stamped C, no matter if they were made before or after what is said to be the transition year, 1981. I have seen a Christmas pipe with a drilled C logo, but perhaps only a handful form memory (vs hundreds of the stamped logo). For some reason, Comoy's appeared to have not bestowed Christmas pipes with the drilled logo. Which is why I've never owned one, the drilled logo for me, is a must.

Here is a stamped C stem logo (filled with white paint).

The drilled logo is made with solid rods, inserted into the stem, in 3 pieces, to create the C (black rod>drilled to accept ivory rod>creates an "O">corner of O is drilled to accept another smaller ivory rod to create the "C".
