Nice job sir! That's what I love about comoys, simple, elegant & classy. That & they all smoke better than any other pipe I've had.

I just refurbished this Comoy's Pebble Grain 601 cherrywood. I have to believe that the stem is a replacement given that there's no "C" logo. If so, the previous owner was really hard on stems. This one had a 3/16" hole in the underside that I repaired with powdered vulcanite and black super glue. All in all, I'm happy with it, even if it's not really collectible. Not bad for a net of $12.

London Pride 191. Billiard, I guess. Super lightweight. 27 grams.
This one didn't require too much work, apart from removing stem oxidation. It was well cared for. The stummel could use a bit more sheen, but I'm reluctant to hit it with the 8000 and 12000 micro mesh since I don't want to affect the original stain. I think I'll live with its original satin sheen. I love how on close inspection, you can see how the 3-part "C" is constructed.

Lets see more of that 499 achtman!
Hi Al,

this is the pipe you've seen a couple of pictures of already, including the pipe at position 11:00 above.
It was posted on eBay a couple of months ago looking like

I bought it and sent it to Piffyr for restoration together with three other pipes that I bought at the same time. He has posted the pictures of restorations of the three other pipes here at
This is the Speciment Straight Grain shown in the prior post at 05:00
and at
Extraordinaire 235 not included in the box
as well as
BBB Poker from WWI which was incorrectly attributed to 1938 in this post
I just checked with him about posting his pictures on the 499 and his response was

Tell Al they're coming soon. I'll get a post up tomorrow.

In celebration of another addition to the collection, I would like to share my trio of pre-war Royal Comoys pipes.
From top to bottom
126 large pot, circular Made in England COM, Patent number info and stamped for *2 stinger washer on the bottom. This pipe was fitted with the Grand Slam style stinger.
159 small globe, arched London Made COM, no patent or patent pending despite being fitted with the 'Inter Steel' system of mortise and tenon reinforcement.
43 large billiard, circular Made in England COM. Standard mortise and tenon.

These pipes are what really got me into collecting. Royal Comoys pipes from this time-frame are easily the equivalent of the later Blue Riband line that essentially replaced them, beautiful straight grain, exceptional stem work, and that wonderful Comoy's black over orange contrast stain. Unfortunately, over the years the line was downgraded until it was essentially an entry level Comoy's. But, in the beginning, they were pretty damn fantastic.

Just found this pipe which was my father’s. It’s a Comoy Tradition. Next to the circular “Made in England” are two numbers: a small “4” next tona larger “7”.

When i discover how to insert a photo, i will oblige.

I collect Peterson silvers mostly. But the besuty ofbthis Comoy, the stain, and tye shank fit are reallynimptessive.

Here are three more pipes I’ve picked up,

Two Lovat shape 210, one a 1930s Virgin Supreme and the other a post-WWII previously unsmoked Blue Riband (on the left)

And a cased, silver-mounted military mount from 1916, which is absolutely tiny.

And the two 210s again, with the Blue Riband on the left.

I've given away 10 of my 60's era Comoys...trying to share the joy. Gained some good friends in the process. Now I just have 3, a Golden Grain Canadian #299, a Tradition #17 Oom Paul and 1 Royal Comoy #589 Yachtman shape.

Love my Comoys and like to share the experience.
