I was fortunate to add another 283 to my collection this week, which is hopefully a nice way to close out the year. This one is a Grand Slam. Thanks to "doctorbob", I was able to date the pipe to the early post-WWII era.
The pipe was in great shape, save for some oxidation and rim darkening. Full restoration details are at the Reborn Pipes blog:

It was lacking the hardware. *7, which is the same size as the stinger that was on the 237 I finished recently. I haven't checked to see if if fits.

It will probably smoke better without it. :) It's a great looking pipe.

Nice restoration.
I'm pretty proud that I recognized the shape from the pictures you posted earlier.
My wife says I'm sad.

I love it when a pipe of fine character can be had affordably, a few hours of restoration withstanding. The prices on most artisan pipes are stratospheric. How many bulldogs in your collection at present?

Round shank Rhodesians, 31. Only eight, true bulldogs. Too many...I don't seek them out anymore, but somehow, the shapes still find me.
I have two other 283's.
440 Tradition(the 283 later became the 440)

Exmoor 283 (1930's?)

And a Jack Howell "Passion for Pipes POY" copy for Neill Archer Roan. I had the smooth version, but sold that to a friend.

See, that's too many. You should unload one on a poor peon who hasn't one.
Just sayin'.
