Velvet, Sir Walter Raleigh original, and Amphora Burley, all tasty to me but somewhat different. Velvet is the quietest burley I've tasted; it might actually be pleasant to mild Virginia blend smokers. It's for when you'd like a smoke, but as background. Sir Walter Raleigh I find decidedly mild but flavorful, again, a kind of an understated smoke, but with more dimensions than Velvet. Amphora Burley, the youngest brand by far among the three, is a stronger blend, maybe medium-strong, and has more dimensions, and is richer and rowdier than the others. It's for when the blend is the centerpiece and you want layers and dimensions. Amphora is not up with the C&D blends, but has the same high regard for the burley leaf. This is no review, just a short report on three burley blends.

Well-summarized. I’d like to try the Amphora. I’ll have to remember to add a pouch to my next order.

I like your spread there. My 3 burleys that I smoke on a daily (when available) are Amphora Burley, Tabac Manil Semois and Five Brothers. Pretty wide range of flavor in that lineup!

We are cut from the same cloth. Virtually everything I like is an easy-to-smoke burley based blend.

I really didn't "get" Velvet. It was like smoking warm air. Something was there, but I really couldn't tell what it was. SWR/A are simply wonderful. Haven't try the other blend.

The SWR pouch recommends it as a blending tobacco too. Yes, the Velvet is pretty subtle, and maybe just blah if you're used to big robust blends. You have to sort of wait for it, but I think it is really there.

From what I understand, there is flavor in Velvet. It's just at the bottom of the pouch by using the same pipe for that and only that.
