When you don't have any control over natural phenomenon, sometimes it

helps to evoke some symbolic gesture. With the arctic closing its grasp

around much of the U.S. and Canada and other places as well, I suggest

Forums members smoke a full bowl of a favorite tobacco in the oldest

smokable pipe you own. It isn't magic, but it will taste mighty fine and

might make things seem a little warmer, or a little happier anyway.

A salute to Old Man Winter. If you want to post what your oldest pipe

is, and which tobacco you smoked, that might be interesting. I will too,

once I figure it out.

My oldest pipes would probably be a couple of pre-Cadogan group Bond Street Orliks. Maybe tomorrow I'll grab the Canadian with some Peterson 2013 special reserve for my lunch time smoke.

Hmmm... the pre-republic Pete? Or one of my Custom-Bilts from the late 30's/early 40's? Or the WWII era WDC? You're right, I'm feeling warmer already.

My oldest pipe (after careful consideration) is a Tinder Box St. Ives bent sitter/pot that was probably

made by Chapuis Comoy, that I bought new in about 1975. After a hearty winter supper, I am going

to smoke some Nat Sherman 536, among my favorite English blends. I was just out running errands

and filling bird feeders, and I feel certain the thermometer dropped about fifteen degrees in two hours.
blueeyedogre, a Canadian has the right ring to it!

This Nording freehand from the late 60's will be pretty nice with Escudo.

Well its actually my newest pipe, but I took my thick walled bent billiard Lorenzetti for a ride with a bowl full of Sutliff Man's Best Friend while I walked the dog. It was fantastic!

It's actually warmed up a little, from about six in my area, to a balmy 20 F. Our supplications to

Old Man Winter must have helped a little.

@cortez I don't often get pipe envy but that's the 3rd or 4th time I've seen that green freehand and I JUST WANT IT!

Not at all cold, but it is time to smoke my oldest, a 1958 Wilke bent apple. I bought it new as a junior in high school. Will try some bulk Stok. Eng. Oriental or FB Balkan in it.

Just before Christmas I was smoking with a friend who had a Wilke from the 60's, a bent freehand,

sort of Dublin-like, good big bowl.

A Calabresi freehand with Reiner Professional. Not near as warm as the woodstove, sucking the smoke right up the chimney.

My oldest pipe is a 1960's Charatan 348DC sandblasted straight pot. It's a grand looking old pipe, but sadly, it's not one of my better smokers and thus only gets smoked occasionally.
