Here’s a quick tip. If you smoke pipes from the age of the Stinger Wars many times the pipes have “stem clocking” issues. Old Meers with Bone Tenons have this issue too.

Sometimes you can heat the stinger or other such “semi invasive” remedies, but I’ve have that occasionally destroy a pipe. Here’s an extremely simple solution.

I use high temp PTFE Teflon Tape.

The greatest value in Teflon is an even 360 degree shim.

The first two pictures are ready to smoke, then there’s an after smoking, new Teflon applied, a picture without a shim and then finally with the Teflon again.
