Does anyone have any suggestions on how to clean the residue buildup on a Zippo lighter pipe insert after it has lit several bowls? Depending on the blend I'm smoking in a given week or so, the buildup can be from very little to really black and almost tar-like.
I've tried using Everclear that I use to clean my pipes, but it doesn't seem to do a very good job. Any suggestions would be appreciated!

I use a Zippo lighter exclusively, do you mean the way it blackens? It have never bothered me.

Yes, the way it blackens. I don't mind a little bit, but depending on the blend it can get rather ugly (I think). Mine is brass, and I like to see the brass instead of the black.
