Hello Everyone, my name is Chris and I live in Northern Virginia. I am a weekend cigar smoker and hobbiest. I started to smoke pipes in order to convince my wife that pipe tobacco is a great smell. I am slowly winning her over with the aromas, but I still need to learn more about pipes and the best flavored tobacco. I hope to learn more about this great past time.
Welcome aboard. This is a great community, and I am sure you will enjoy being a part of it. There are a world of tobaccos to explore and sample. I have enjoyed pipes and pipe tobacco for many years. My wife enjoys some room notes and dislikes others. Fortunately, I have a workshop for the others.
P.S. My brother lives about 50 miles south of Culpeper Virginia---beautiful area.

Thank you, which aroma is more soothing to your wife? My wife is favoring the vanilla aroma tobacco so far, but I want to expand her nostrils. LOL... any suggestions are greatly appreciated. I don't live far from Culpeper and alot of people I work with live in that area. It is a nice area.

Be Welcome Sir, there are two pretty bold tastings' semi- (pseudo)Aromatics on the market that ever pipesmoker need to try at least once, Erinmore Flake and Amphora Red Full Aroma, Both are tobacco forward blends being far from goopy light stuff
Outstanding, I will certainly try those two. Thank you for welcome and the suggestions.

Hey! Welcome aboard from D.C.! There is another shop here not far from the capital called “W.Curtis Draper” they’ve usually got a great selection of bulk aromatics and plenty of pipes and pipe gear, great place!

There is also a place in Old Town Alexandria, called John Crouch. (That I think another member, Jay? told me about) they’ve got a good selection of their own blends and few tins.

Otherwise Georgetown Tobacco is a great shop they are very knowledgable and deffo a +1 for them from me!

Good luck on your quest and happy smoking!
Hey thank you for the suggestions. I can't find decent places out here in Loudoun County. I figured I would have to go towards DC to find a good place or two in order to get some good stuff. I will certainly try those locations out, and get me some good quality stuff.
This site has been a big help, and since I am just starting out with pipes this site has been very helpful. Normally I smoke cigars, but the aroma isn't appealing to the spousal unit. So I am switching over to pipes, because I prefer the aroma of a pipe over some cigars.

My wife likes the aroma of Savinelli's Doblone d' Ora. She does not like heavy flavored tobaccos.

Chris, I’m also a Northern Virginian. There’s two places I can recommend. First is in Loudoun Co. called “Leesburg Cigar and Pipe” pretty good selection there and friendly staff. Next place is in Georgetown, DC called “Georgetown Tobacco” great selection of pipes and tobaccos and the owners a great guy and full of knowledge. If you catch him walking around definitely chat him up. There’s also some regulars there that have been smoking pipes for a long time that you can talk to too if you have any questions.
I don't live far from Leesburg, that will be my first place before I make down to Georgetown. But if the guy in Georgetown has a lot of good info then I will make my way down to see him. Besides my wife like to shop in that area, so i might as well enjoy my time. Thank you for the suggestion.

The owners been in the business for years, so have many of the regulars who would all be happy to share their experience. The smoking lounge there is also a welcoming place filled with all kinds of people, so there won't be a shortage of good conversation while your wife wanders the boutiques.

My wife doesn't want to come near me after cigars either. Most pipe tobacco is welcome, and even some aros are allowed in the house.

My wife likes the aroma of Savinelli's Doblone d' Ora.

My wife really loves Doblone too! And oddly enough she’s really hit or miss with pipe tobaccos but loves cigars, she’ll even smoke one with me on occasion. I think it has something to do with hanging with her dad while he smoked cigars when she was younger.

Pipe tobacco (except for flavored ones) is allowed in the house. Cigars---not so much. That is a back porch or workshop pleasure. I respect her wishes, and she respects my enjoying my pipes.
