The Chicagoland Pipe Collectors Club is committed to hold the Chicago Pipe Show on May 2 & 3, 2020. We continue to work with Pheasant Run regarding the Show and our contracts with Pheasant Run for the next 4 years. We are also considering other venues in the area in the event Pheasant Run is not available. There will be a Chicago Pipe Show in 2020, We will update any changes in location of the 2020 Show.

The Chicago Pipe Show is typically on Saturday and Sunday of the first weekend of May. Historically, we have other events from Wednesday through Friday. We will post a schedule when we have the details ironed out.

winton, I'm just guessing, but it sounds like Pheasant Run won't have the upkeep and maintenance to properly support a show. The staff makes the resort experience, and camping out in what is essentially a closed shell of a hotel could be a downer. I earlier thought of Rosemont near O'Hare as an alternative because of the many hotels in the area, and also the commuter train from the airport, and also to the city downtown. Other venues further out might be price competitive. Happy hunting. I wish I were in better touch with that scene to offer more insight. Every larger suburb, and there are scores of suburbs, has at least a chain hotel, and these are another option. Or, you might be able to wring one more show out of the Pheasant while you shop for a 2021 venue. They should give you a discount for more limited service, I'd hope.

I'll bet Pheasant run will be demolished in a few years. Northern Illinois had some nice resorts in the past. The Chateau Louise Resort and Hotel in West Dundee (1961-1984) and The Clock Tower Resort in Rockford (1968-2018). Rockford's Clock Tower was recently demolished for the new Hard Rock Casino...if the Illinois Gaming Board approves it.

Who knows, maybe St. Charles will get a casino/hotel in the future at the Pheasant Run site.

Next year or in the future, campuses might be explored. Colleges tend to have a lot of empty meeting space in the summer and do lots of band camps and music camps, and though a local hotel might have to serve for lodgings, the actual show might be in one of these spaces. Also, some campuses are in scenic places. Just a thought.

That's some expensive real estate there. It includes an 18 hole golf course. I would think it makes sense to sell it to a Commercial Developer. Another hotel, perhaps some office buildings.
A deal worked out with the airport next door prevents Pheasant Run from developing the golf course.

You can’t smoke on any campus grounds anywhere anymore.

You also can't smoke anything, anywhere inside the town of Rosemont. This includes the casino, which is proudly "one of the first no-smoking casinos in the nation."
It’s been close to a year since I’ve been there but they had a big “patio” lounge that was about 100% enclosed with heaters, chairs, tv’s etc. No gaming in it though. Maybe that’s gone but I haven’t heard about it. A lot of people from the area drive the extra distances to go to IN because you can smoke inside there on the casino floor. Although for some reason you can’t smoke in the poker rooms in IN...go figure. Regardless, I’d be surprised if Rivers, the Rosemont casino got rid of that smoking room if for no other reason than because of the more lax smoking regs in IN.

Correction...and I shoulda known this living a town over from Rivers, but the casino, much to the chagrin of Rosemont, is actually in the town of Des Plaines. Rosemont wanted it, but got shot down, possibly in part to the town being all “mobbed-up” ...allegedly;-)

Wow, did I strike out with my Rosemont idea and my campus suggestion. It's a cruel world for smokers, as we know. Maybe one of the Indian nations? I'd better cease and desist. I seem to come up with clunker suggestions, but I wish you/us well.

My company builds and operates hotels (primarily Marriott). Those type of venues are definitely not surviving in the current industry.
They might have to go the route taken by the Northeast Pipe Smoking Contest (Kaywoodie) and the revived Richmond CORPS shows - held at a private venue (a local "Sportsman's Association"). These locations still have pretty loose rules and policies.
