Charred bowl?

I allowed the flame to dip down to the bottom of the bowl for a couple seconds. The pipe now has a small but still apparent funny taste to it that sometimes masks the flavor of the tobacco. Did I char the bottom of the bowl? I used a Zippo pipe lighter. Can this taste of briar go away over time as I smoke the pipe?
