Personal choice trumps all else. But to tell others that you can't learn to shoot well with a DSLR is wrong. You just need the discipline to not go automatic (unless in the company of rabid bears or such). And a thousand exposures, each one with thought and care in framing, exposure, lighting, composition, is they way to go.
