Smokingpipes just got this pipe in. Were I wealthy I'd buy it. Awesome stuff!!

Castello certainly does gorgeous and exquisitely crafted pipes, but if I were going for a Castello, I'd look first at the few that keep the weight down. They tend to edge up toward or exceed 3 ounces, and I really appreciate pipes that weigh considerably less. Ferndown and Ashton, among others, offer some of these, as do many artisans.

Well if you can get an authentic Todd Johnson for $4,800.00 why not slum it with a $3,600 Castello. I like the pipe and I really like Castello.

I like this little number better:

surprised it hasn't sold yet.
As mentioned by others, I too fall into the functional utilitarian preference of design and see such unnecessary elaborate carvings like the flames on the op pipe to be nothing but unneeded additional weight.

^^^ I agree. Here is my pick by a wide margin of any Castello currently at Smoking Pipes. Worth every penny in my opinion.

Sunny Cornwall, UK.
I personally think it looks pretty hideous but each to his own I suppose.
As for the cost of the thing, think how many 'proper' pipes could be had for that amount of coin.
Regards,
Jay.

I once collected LOTS of pipes. I got rid of most of them preferring a few I love vs many that I like. I asked myself if my home caught fire and I could grab a few... once answered, I sold the rest.

I saw a few of the what I took as a new style or series of Flame carvings in Chicago. A couple of us commented that it looks like it might be a different carvers take on the finish. I thought the flames almost looked like leaves.

IMO Generally size for size your not going to find lighter wood than Castello. I handled many of these again IMO "new style or series" flames and found them to be very light for the large size. 8O
