With all this talk of Three Nuns Original with Virginia and perique and what Mac Baren is coming up with for a new roll out later in June, I decided to have a deep look into my cellar.
I thought I remembered buying Three Nuns years ago, and then forgetting about it.
Sure enough, Three Nuns Tobacco in a 100g tin. “None Nicer,” it says on the front. Right there in my little ol' cellar.
The backside of the tin shows that I cellared it in 1997. It was distributed by James B. Russell, INC. On the bottom of the backside it says:
"Made in Denmark under License of Imperial Tobacco Limited England."
Now, I had honestly forgotten about this tin. I can’t recall where I bought it, but it might have been while in Europe on an assignment of some sort.
Now, I know there are tobacco scholars here that can tell me quickly whether or not this is the Old Original with perique or some of the stuff that arrived in America with burley and no perique.
It does not say on the tin anywhere. I guess you were expected to know your tobaccos back then, and I must admit that I thought I was pretty sharp. Obviously, I wasn’t as sharp as I let on to be.
Anyway, enough prattling from me. I have also supplied two photos: front and back.
Anyone who can shed light on this tin as to whether it is the Old Deal or the New Deal will be much, much appreciated.
