Obviously it is a first period pipe and I love the subdued, yet defined blast.
Could it be virgin briar, meaning not stained ? First period Sand Grain pipes are
not too thick on the ground. The shape of the stem is imho magnificent.

That's a handsome pipe for sure, traditional but with a lot of style. Caminetto are sweet smokers, I can say having just won a Hawkbill in the vets limerick contest generously offered by bayareabriar.

Apart from the rim, not much to work on.
Chamber cleaned out nicely to the almost bare briar, mortise very clean.
No nasty smells, but will give it a cotton ball alcohol cleaning anyway.
Stem looks good, maybe later give the moustache a golden touch up.
It's a very stylish, beefy billiard with a sort of wavy rim ; I love the "lush" style of the stampings.
A trifle florid to my eye , serifed and with much Italian flair .

I tried to borrow the image from the original post about the contest, picturing the pipe, but nope, it didn't work. It's a compact pipe, a nose warmer, a Hawkbill with a nice flowing design, not disjointed the way some Hawkbills can look. Sorry about my technical ineptitude.

There were a series of good limericks, and I only entered to get the contest rolling. I especially liked the rowdy ones. But bayareabriar chose mine. It goes:

A man once hunting a snipe
packed his shotgun and loaded his pipe.
When the bird then appeared
the man blew off his beard, but
the snipe smoked the shotgun for life.

The Caminetto is one of my up-market pipes, a real keeper to treasure.
