I picked up a tin of Sunset Harbor. It is a simple 3 component "Balkanish" flake from Cornell and Diehl. Latakia-Orientals-Perique. No Virginia, No Burley. Spicy buttery smokey sublime goodness. This hits the sweetspot that Penzance seems to miss at times. I would liken this to a pressed Tashkent flake (if it existed) with a bit more spice. Take advantage of the C&D sell at Smokingpipes. I have a few tins incoming.

Thanks for the review! It’s been tempting me for a while. I am just trying to stock up more on Virginias at the moment, which are my main smoke. I have a backup reserve of Maltese Falcon, Chelsea Morning, and Quiet Nights, so I’m trying to find a Virginia I want to build up. Just wish I could ?. I’ll definitely keep this one in mind once I (hopefully!) fill my Virginia void! Oh, McClelland, why did you have to spoil my palate?!

Here are some other gems that lurk about: Dunhill, Ratrays, Sam Gawith, Esoterica, and Solani. Their entire lineup are gems.

Yes, and I have tried the "popular" and well known blends. Gawith and Rattray's are well represented in my modest cellar. But I have never read about Sunset Harbor here or on any other boards for that matter. My point was that there are many out there flying under the radar, so to speak.

I will throw some flakes your way if you would like to give it a try.

Just opened a tin today from the mail. It was dated from March of 2019.
Something tells me that this blend sits around for a while and not as popular as other C&D blends. Get it while you can, as this might be a diamond in the rough that will be the next Penzance in the future.

It's great that this blend only has 3 constituents and is flavorful as something that would contain more. After tonights smoke, I was completely entranced. It reminds me of SPC Plum pudding, but less sweet considering it forgoes any Virginia and more spicy as perique is one of the three leafs. It has a sour quality you might find in a straight greek yogurt. I find it unique.

It's smooth and burns at a moderate pace. Leaves a little moisture at the bottom but no gurgling at all. From my taste, it shares the same spiciness that GL Pease Haddos delight has, but not as much nicotine. It's a perfect early to late evening smoke and could easily smoke 2-3 bowls of this throughout the day if you wanted.

Also the tin art is pretty if you turn a blind eye to the ugly warning labels. I've added it to my favorites list and will probably be making a 5+tin purchase in the near future, along with some other favorites.

I've got a few tins in the cellar, but have yet to crack one. But I really like Tashkent, so I'm glad to hear that my "similar blend" buying was fairly accurate. Thanks!

I just recently got in some new tins of Sunset Harbor Flake. Got to give them a try. Has anyone aged this long term?
