Well it seems like one of my pipes is starting to burn out on the side wall. I'm very disappointed as I just got it a few weeks ago from Montreal.
What can I do to stop/repair it?
Thanks!

Well after some research, pipe mud seems to be the answer. I have a mini Cuban cigar that I hope will create enough ash.

If your pipe is burning out that fast it is probably a combination of poor construction and smoking like a steam train! I rarely tell someone how to smoke but I would suggest learning to "sip" the smoke from the pipe with slow soft draws with just enough time to keep the pipe lit. I think you will find a much more enjoyable experience from all your baccy and your pipes will be much happier. Answering your question pipe mud is the only solution I know that will help.

I don't smoke cigars so I've used ash from my pipes for mud.

Raised the bottom of the chamber on a few estates as well as a protective coat in the bottom of a cob. Had to run the ash through a small mesh sieve to remove the odd bits of dottle but these applications have stood the test of time admirably.

Well I took daveinlax's advice and gave the shop a call. They provided great service to me. They said to send it in for them to look at, and they would replace the pipe. I told them I would try to fix it with pipe mid, and he said to contact them to see how it goes. So I made a bit of mud, and slapped it in, hopefully it works. If not I'll be sending it in next week.

Call the shop today and explain the situation and see what they have to say about it. [8O]
Yes, this would be my first step...I am assuming you are refering to the Blatter and Blatter you picked up at their shop last week (or perhaps a couple weeks back - the days all kind of run together at this time of year...)? If so, ouch! I feel your pain, my friend...

Yeah it a real pain, but totally my fault. I puff fast and hard, and was also smoking in a bit of wind lastnight.
At least they are very understanding and willing to help me out!

I'd s'pose it would work, in theory at least.

I've been told by the older hands that cigar ash is most oft touted due to the comparative cleanliness as compared to that from the pipe. That's why I run the pipe ash through a sieve, to clean it up.
But there's just something, well..... wrong with the idea of cigarette ash being applied to briar. (-;
